Day 93: 125 Days of TEL HI
January 7, 2015
A popular gem sits atop the busy streets of North Beach- at the cross of Columbus and Broadway is “Language of the Birds” by Brian Goggin and Dorka Keehn. This art piece, physically depicted by LED illuminated books, serves to “illuminate the culture and history” found in the North Beach neighborhood.
Scattered along the concrete below are words that seem to have ‘fallen from the books’ hanging over head. How exactly did the arrangement of words come about? Phrases from ninety San Francisco North Beach-specific authors were scanned, enlarged, printed and then dropped from the third story of the SF Museum of Modern Art. Then they were stenciled and arranged exactly as they now appear on the city sidewalk.
